May 2025
Congratulations to two of our undergrads-turned-alumni, Maddie Soares and Rutvi Jain!! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see where life takes you!
April 2025
The Meyer lab received another publication, “Age and sex independently influence safety learning in mice”! Congratulations to lead author Gabrielle Magalhaes and co-authors Hannah Burnell, Beckett Blocker, Sambridhi Subedi, and Dr. Heidi Meyer!
March 2025
The Meyer Lab got its first publication, “Environmental Enrichment has Age- and Sex- Specific Effects on Fear Regulation in Mice” ! Congratulations to lead author Hannah Burnell and co-author Beckett Blocker, as well Dr. Heidi Meyer!
November 2024
Congratulations to graduate student Gabrielle Magalhaes for completing her quals! She presented on her approach/avoidance research, which looks into how adult and adolescent mice deal with conflicting behaviors.
September 2024
The Meyer Lab recently attended the Pavlovian Society Annual Meeting in Indianapolis! Congratulations to Hannah, Gabby, and Beckett for presenting posters on their research!
Congratulations to 3 of our undergraduates, Maddie Soares, Rutvi Jain, and Crystal Lin, for getting the UROP award! Maddie will be studying impacts of early life stress on adolescent avoidance learning, Rutvi will be investigating the impact of brief context and cue exposure on fear extinction in adolescent and adult mice, and Crystal will be looking at neural and behavioral mechanisms of intermixed safety cues in male and female adolescents.
Welcome to our new lab manager, Surina Prabhu! We’re so excited to have you here!
August 2024
The Meyer Lab hosted two summer interns as a part of the RISE (Research in Science & Engineering) program.
Congratulations to Meghana and Ridhi on presenting your work at the RISE student intern poster presentation! Meghana’s poster was “Spacing extinction trials across days presents lower prefrontal neuronal activity in adolescent mice”, and Ridhi’s was “Differences in threat and reward processing in adults and adolescent mice”.
July 2024
Congratulations to Dr. Heidi Meyer and the lab for receiving a Seed Grant from the Brain Research Foundation to study how experiences with threat or safety during peri-adolescence shape brain development!
June 2024
Meyer Lab recently attended the Neurobiology of Stress Workshop 2024 in Boston! What a great conference!
Congratulations to Gabrielle Magalhaes, who was awarded the Neurophotonics Center Training Fellowship (T32)! Gabrielle’s research will focus on adapting established neurophotonic techniques to the unique needs of adolescent mouse models.
Welcome to the lab, Viviana Castro! We are so excited for the addition of our latest graduate student.

Congratulations to our amazing lab manager, Beckett Blocker, who will be attending the PhD Program in Brain, Behavior, and Cognition (BBC) at Boston University starting this fall! Way to go Beckett!
Congratulations to research assistant Rida Naeem who graduated this month with a B.A. in Neuroscience and Computer Science minor!
Gabrielle Magalhaes was also given an honorable mention for the NSF GRFP! Congrats Gabrielle!

September 2023
Congratulations to Rutvi Jain who was awarded project support from the BU Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program! Her project will investigate the impact of brief context and cue exposure on fear extinction in adolescent and adult mice.
August 2023
Congratulations to graduate student Gabrielle Magalhaes who was selected as a recipient of the Boston University Graduate Program in Neuroscience JSTPN Early Stage Training in Neuroscience Award! Gabrielle’s research focuses on behavioral flexibility under states of affective conflict (simultaneous fear and reward availability) in adolescent mice.
Also congratulations to Professor Heidi Meyer who was selected as a 2023 awardee of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Young Investigator Award!
