<image:caption>My research questions are driven by a fascination with the the uniqueness of the adolescent period, as more than a linear step in a progression from childhood to adulthood. My research aims to address how behavioral patterns are learned based on an individual’s past experience and current environment (including the ‘environment’ of adolescence). I recieved a B.S. in Neuroscience and psychology from the University of California Santa Cruz. I then completed my PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience, under the mentorship of Dr. David Bucci at Dartmouth College, studying the development (across adolescence) of behavioral inhibition in the face of appetitive cues. I carried out a postdoc at Weill Cornell Medicine, working with Dr. Francis Lee, where my research was focused in the domain of fear and anxiety, exploring how adolescents learn to discriminate safety from potential danger, and how exposure to explicit safety signals may serve as a mechanism for reducing fear. In January 2022 Meyer lab opened at Boston University in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Center for Systems Neuroscience. We study learning, behavior and affective neurodevelopment during adolescence, focusing on interneuron tuning of prefrontal-based neural circuits</image:caption>

My introduction to research began as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Alicia Swan’s research lab, where I mathematically modeled the symptomatology of anxiety disorder development following traumatic experiences. My work in Swan Lab and neuroscience coursework led me to become fascinated with understanding affective regulation at a circuit level. Shortly before graduating, I joined the lab of Dr. Anthony Burgos-Robles as a research technician, where I studied the role of prefrontal and ventral hippocampal circuitry in fear responding and defensive responses such as avoidance. I am now a second-year PhD student in the Graduate Program for Neuroscience at Boston University in the Meyer Lab. My research focuses on the prefrontal dynamics during approach-avoidance conflict and examines how these dynamics may differ across development. Outside of the lab, I enjoy lounging with my cats, playing role-play games, weight-lifting, and using my Dunkin reward perks.</image:caption>

<image:caption>She/Her Research Technician and Laboratory Manager I am the research technician and lab manager here at the Meyer Lab. My academic journey commenced at Dickinson College, where I majored in Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology. During my undergraduate years, I developed an insatiable curiosity for the complexities of neurological systems and human behavior, and it was in the realm of neuroscience that I found my true passion. At Dickinson, I had the opportunity to work with Professor Anthony Rauhut and investigate the neurobiological basis of drug addiction on that of depression, looking at the effect of methamphetamine administration on that of hyperactivity and sensitization in mice. Post-graduation, I have been fortunate to work in the Meyer Lab, and this role allows me to continue exploring the complexities of neurological systems and their impact on behavior and on mood disorders. In the Meyer Lab, I have been particularly interested in exploring the neuronal circuits that facilitate fear extinction and conditioned inhibition, in particular the connection between the ventral hippocampus and the prelimbic prefrontal cortex, and the means to which these circuits meditate anxiety disorders. In addition, the role that age, particularly that of adolescence, has on this process presents interesting data about the developing mind, and I am excited to delve further into this work.</image:caption>

I am very interested in clinical psychology, and my experience has been focused on mental health advocacy. My research experience began my freshman year when I joined the Psycholinguistics Lab under Professor Caldwell-Harris where I ran experiments to examine the physiological response of bilinguals when telling emotional stories. In addition, I have been working as a public relations intern for Survivor’s Awareness, a nonprofit organization that provides creative outlets for trauma survivors. I am thrilled to be part of the Meyer lab Team to learn more about the neuroscience behind learning. I believe that it will equip me with knowledge and insights to help people who suffer from mental illness in the future.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Pronouns: she/her Undergraduate Research Assistant Expected graduation: Fall 2024 As a senior majoring in psychology, I am eager to learn more about how everyday emotions impact one’s daily life, as well as the cognitive processes that create these experiences. My first research experience was at BU’s Center for Autism Research Excellence, where I collaborated on a project investigating how parent language quality influences behavioral engagement states in autistic children. I am excited to now be a part of the Meyer lab, where I can dive deeper into research surrounding fear and safety learning and combine my interests in psychology and neuroscience. I am very interested in the realm of learning and memory, and I hope to grow my research skills and continue in the research field in the years to come.</image:caption>

<image:caption>She/Her PhD Student, Graduate Program in Neuroscience 2019-2023: B.A. Behavioral Neuroscience, University of San Diego I graduated from the University of San Diego with an Honors B.A. in Behavioral Neuroscience and minors in French and Biomedical Ethics. At USD, I conducted invigorating research in Dr. Jena Hales’ lab studying the role of the endocannabinoid system in elapsed time memory. Time in the Hales’ lab nurtured my curiosity for the seamless internal mechanisms of temporal learning and memory. Additionally, I was accepted into the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program where I was given the opportunity to dive further into the research community through more involvement in research, conferences, and talks. Learning and memory, within the context of behavioral/systems neuroscience, has always been a passion of mine and I strive to continue fueling my interest in this. I am now in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at BU and as part of the Meyer Lab, have the opportunity to continue honing my drive for research within the realm of learning and memory processes. I am interested in understanding the neural circuitry underlying fear and safety learning, through behavioral methodology and manipulations of the circuitry. In my free time you can find me running, hiking, finding new dessert places, and enjoying the sun when it comes out.</image:caption>

<image:caption>She/Her Research Technician and Laboratory Manager I graduated from Dartmouth College in June 2024 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience. There, I was involved in Tor Wager’s Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Lab where I studied how pain affects decision making, as well as how music affects the experience of pain. Now, as the lab technician and manager in the Meyer Lab, I help out with various projects as well as my own, where I focus on associational learning and the differences in age and sex within that model. I am excited to continue this research and grow as a scientist in this role!</image:caption>
